Palenque Research, 1922–1945
The consolidation of modern research
About this volume
Volume XI continues the chronicle into the decades when archaeological work became increasingly specialized and collaborative. The period brought new surveys, studies of architecture and inscriptions, and a more systematic approach to the surviving urban landscape.
Volume XI connects the documentary traditions of the early explorers with the foundations of modern Palenque research and carries the collection forward toward its planned fifteen-volume scope. It shows how the questions raised over centuries were transformed by new methods, institutions and generations of scholars.
