Palenque Gains Broad Scientific Interest
1905–1929
About this volume
Volume X documents the widening scientific engagement with Palenque during the first decades of the twentieth century. Individual travellers increasingly gave way to museums, universities, learned societies and major research institutions.
Studies by Bowditch, Batres, Spinden, Morley, Blom and many others address architecture, calendars, inscriptions, burials and regional settlement. The American Antiquarian Society and the Carnegie Institution symbolize the expanding institutional world in which Palenque research now operated.
