Growing International Interest
1832–1838
About this volume
The third volume examines the moment when information about Palenque began to circulate beyond colonial archives. Scholars, diplomats, travellers and artists increasingly compared reports, questioned earlier interpretations and sought more reliable evidence.
It documents the expanding European network around Mexican antiquities and the growing role of geographical societies, correspondence and illustrated publications. Palenque emerged from isolated reports as a subject of sustained international debate.
